My do-over

That's what I call my little squirrel. She looks like me but waaaayyyy better. Smarter too, at least that's my goal. I've come up with the three things that I think are most urgent for her to know as she grows up. Now, these are subject to change, but I think I'm off to a good start:

1. Do unto others as you would have done to you. As far as I'm concerned, this is the only religion you need.

2. There is always less time than you think to get things done.

3. Always spend less than what you have.

It's damn hard to be mostly alone and find yourself responsible for the way someone turns out. But I look forward to the challenge. And I am so exited that we will be spending our first birthday together this coming week. Yippie! Happy birthday to US.

No, I'm still alive...really!

Can you spell s-l-a-c-k-e-r? OMG, it's been months and I feel like a major flake. But Susan up in Cape Cod with her new hip website and blog has motivated me to get off my butt and resume!

Avah has grown her first teeth and will be 1 year old in less than 2 weeks. Where does the time go?

I'll be posting pictures later...you'll see!

The apple did not fall far from the tree..

Those of you who know me are well aware that I love to talk. I'm not a yapper, but I've got the gift for gab. It appears that so does my little squirrel. Now that I am hearing Mamma, dada, and "hi" on a regular basis, we've moved on to "ki" for kitty. No really, she points to her Hello Kitty doll and says "ki" ...consistantly!

Talks a lot, likes cats...hmmm sounds just like her mom.

New social network site is really fun!

Hey friends, I'm talking about pnn.com, the Personal News Network. It hails itself as having real people and real stories and I must agree. It's got pretty much everything you could want in a women's social network. Serious topics like politics and the environment are covered, as well as fun stuff like celebrity gossip. I especially like the section on eco-friendly living called "green". I really like the idea of making new friends in such a melting pot type of venue and I think I'm going to join today. I'm always on the lookout for new opportunities to work from home and maybe this is a place where I can learn more about what's out there. Cheers!

Old dog, new tricks

Well, here I am with a disc my sister Kristine sent me for the purpose of learning Dreamweaver so that I can become good at web design. And it's pretty interesting stuff. The videos and tutorials are pretty clear, but I need to view them multiple times so I actually get it. Wish me luck!

Oh, speaking of luck, Avah is appearently about to cut her first tooth! There is just a tiny white nub sticking out of her gumline just left of center. If it's not a tooth, well then I'm hard pressed to tell you what the heck it is. My money (which I don't have any of) is on a new tooth. This should add an absolutely hellish aspect to breastfeeding...can't wait! But  seriously, I want to nurse her until her first birthday, I just feel it's better for her in so many ways. Then after that, mommy wants her body back for once and for all!

What will I call my web design service? I haven't figured that out yet. dorkmom.com? brokesinglemom.net? Any suggestions that sound better than dorkmom are welcome.

Up north and freezing for Christmas

Holy frostbite Batman! It was 1 degree fahrenheit when we arrived in Detroit on Dec. 21. And with wind gusts up to 25 mph it was dangerously cold. Avah did ok on the flights, and my dad was on time to pick me up. But I gotta tell ya, I do not miss Michigan in winter, not one bit.

This time I had the sense to bring my camera and I got some decent photos at first, then it started doing "bad camera stuff" now I need to figure out how to download NEF files. What are those? Good question!

It was hillarious to do a downtown Milford bar crawl with the twins the next night, they're almost 23 full of crazy stories. It's kinda fun having sisters who are 16 years younger than me. I'm glad Avah finally got to meet the rest of the immediate family. However, let me say for the record that Avah is a true Florida girl, she hated the snow!
